Troop 27 Attends Summer Camp

[ Jul. 27, 2007 ]   A note from Scoutmaster Bob:
Now that we have almost recovered from a week of Boy Scout Summer Camp, it is back to the same old grind. A quick report regarding camp:

Sixteen of our 23 scouts atended Summer Camp.

Nine of the 18 scouts that attended the Brownsea First Year Program were from our troop.

Eleven of the 35 people that attended Polar Bear for 3 mornings at 6:30 AM at the waterfront were from our troop.

Three adult leaders (from the Geritol Patrol) woke Jay Decho up on the fourth morning with a special cheer were from our troop. Jay rewarded us with special Polar Bear slides. The 3 adult leaders reverted back to (some say they never left) being 13 again!

Troop 27 took 2nd on Monday in the competition for the coveted Thunderbird Award for best daily site inspection. It then went on to finish the week with 4 consecutive 1st place finishes scoring a 89, 88, 96, 97, and 97 on each day! Congratulations Troop 27 for a job well done!!!

Just a quick reminder, the first year scouts should be exercising, specifically push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, standing long jump and 1/4 mile walk/run. We will be re-testing them in a few weeks and expect improvement.

We will be having a PLC planning in the next few weeks. All members of the incoming and outgoing PLC's are expected to attend.

Also, we are planning a Court-of-Honor before the end of the summer.

Finally, a special thanks goes out to Kevin Barber and Gary Johnson who spent the week with me and 16 boys. Without them, this week would not have been possible.

Yours in Scouting,
Scoutmaster Bob

Adult Leader News

  • BSA Youth Protection Training Available Online
The BSA National Council has made Youth Protection Training available online.   Completion of this training is essentially required for all adult leaders, since National and Local BSA tour (travel) permits will soon require that at least one adult leader on each trip have this training.   This is a comprehensive, high-quality training seminar, dealing with a difficult subject in a professional manner.   Any adult involved with the troop is encouraged to take this training as soon as possible.
